The Houston Symphony along with Jana and Scotty Arnoldy (Ball Chairs) presented the 2016 Houston Symphony Ball: Carnaval that featured entertainment by Bebel Gilberto on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Jesse H. Jones Hall for the Performing Arts.

Mike Stude Award for Enduring Artistic Vision – Lindy and John Rydman, Spec’s Charitable Foundation/Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods
Raphael Fliegel Award for Visionary Leadership – Robert Franz
The Houston Symphony raised over $1.5 million for the Symphony’s Education and Community Programming and honored an esteemed group of individual leaders who demonstrated their love of music into leadership support. The Ima Hogg Philanthropy award is presented to Sybil F. Roos, who have made a tremendous impact on the Houston Symphony over the years.
The Mike Stude Award for Enduring Artistic Vision was awarded to this year’s deserving recipients, Lindy and John Rydman, Spec’s Charitable Foundation/Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods. The Raphael Fliegel Award for Visionary Leadership is presented to Robert Franz, whose leadership has transformed the Houston Symphony. The presentation was outstanding and the proceeds from the Ball benefit the Symphony’s education and community programming.
The public’s support of the Ball helps to ensure that the Symphony can continue to provide free performances for children and families, lifelong learning opportunities for adults and professional development for teachers. On Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston Galleria The Periwinkle Foundation presented Takin’ It to The Streets Gala 2016. The mission of The Periwinkle Foundation develops and provides programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults, and families who are challenged by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children’s Hospital.
The Street Festival Opened in the Discovery Ballroom that included: Food Trucks, Cocktails, Big Board Auction, Wine Pull, Grab Bag, Heads or Tails, Raffle, Children’s Street Art Gallery. The Buffet and Program was held in the Legends Ballroom. Honoring: Gerson Award Recipient – Nancy Kline Cogan, In Memoriam and Periwinkle Partners: The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa, Valero Energy Foundation
On Friday, April 29, 2016, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft held a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. titled Crafting A Legacy at the River Oaks Country Club. The Chair was Judy Nyquist, and the honoree this year was Lucinda Loya. Introduction of the honoree was presented by Catherine D. Anspon who serves as Executive Editor/Art & Features, PaperCity Magazine.
Perry Allen Price is the new Executive Director for Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Lucinda Loya is an interior decorator and known for her innovation, impeccable taste and style for the arts and philanthropy. She has an eye for style that transcends in both her residential and commercial client commissions. She has been featured on hit TV shows as CBS’s Living Large, Law and Order, and CSI, and HGTV’s Selling NY. Lucinda is very active in the community, tireless giving of her time, talents, and treasure to a multitude of causes.
The delicious lunch contained River Oaks Country Club Salad (trio of baby greens, spun carrot, cucumber, pickled red onion, green pepper, marinated red and yellow grape tomatoes with balsamic dressing), chicken and artichokes (grilled chicken breast topped with sun-dried tomato, morels, onion, and artichokes, served with basil angel hair pasta, asparagus spears, and lemon beurre blanc), and old-fashioned strawberry shortcake.
