BB&T presented the Mad Hatter’s Ball that benefits educational outreach at the Children’s Museum of Houston. The Mad Hatter’s Ball Sponsor was Phillips 66. The Chairs of this event were Elva and Truett Akin, and Monica and Greg Meeks. The Underwriting Chairs were Caroline and John Harrell, and Lyndsey and Bret Zorich; and Auction Chairs were Kelly Sklar and Liz Stephens. There was a Live Auction, Big Board, Family & Home, Fashion, Beauty & Health, Food & Wine, Sports & Entertainment and Travel Sections.


On Monday, December 19, 2016 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Outback Restaurant in Meyerland, 8731 West Loop South, Houston, Texas the Achievement Through Leadership Foundation (ATLF) along with the Missouri City-Sugarland Texas Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated hosted a toy drive.

This year’s charitable effort “A Toy Story: Krimson and Kreme Edition” is responding to the need for presents for abused and neglected children in the care of Harris County Children Protective Services through the BEARing Gifts program, a holiday project of the year-round BE A RESOURCE program known as BEAR.

Achievement Through Leadership Foundation (ATLF), established in 2005, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting the personal evolution of youth in the Greater Houston and by assisting them with higher education and leadership development.

The Missouri City-Sugar Land (TX) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated was chartered in 1988. The members are college-educated men who have a deep commitment to the bond of brotherhood. The chapter enriches the Greater Fort Bend County area through dedication to community service, youth mentoring, scholarship and education.

On Thursday, November 10, 2016, MD Anderson held its Diamond 75th Anniversary Gala celebrating seventy-five years of making cancer history on Fannin Street and Holcombe Boulevard – Texas Medical Center. The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education of undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. Masters of Ceremonies were Bob Schieffer and Gerald McRaney, and many distinguished guests included: Joe Biden (Vice President of the United States) who gave Remarks, James A. Baker III (Former Secretary of State), William McRaven (The University of Texas System Chancellor), Yolanda Adams (Grammy Award-Winning Musician) and Houston Celebration Chorus directed by Ernest Walker, Ronald A. DePinho, M.D. (MD Anderson President), Reba McEntire (Singer, Actress), and Houston Children’s Chorus.
