Community Artists Collective

On Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. a luncheon for the Community Artists Collective was held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston, Texas. The Community Artists’ Collective was the first visual arts organization in the Midtown/Third Ward area, and since 1985 has steadily presented the visual arts throughout the greater Houston area. The Collective’s mission is to provide the educational and cultural link among African American Artists and all communities, inspiring unlimited creativity. Also, the Collective’s core objectives include expanding the market for the original work of African American artists and making arts education more accessible to children and adults.

The program started with a welcome and overview of The Collective. Introduction of Lester Marks was given by Michelle Barnes (Founder/Executive Director) and the Presentation of the Lester Marks Patron of the Year Award Response was given by Houston’s fabulous first lady of philanthropy Dr. Carolyn Farb. Supporting the Community Artists’ Collective secures the future for thousands of our city’s youth because young people need the arts as a forum for safe expression, exploration, and authentic connection to the world around them. Research indicates that arts education strengthens student problem-solving and critical-thinking skills that promotes social skills that enhance the awareness and respect for others, and significantly bolsters their academic achievement and preparation for the work world. For more information to support this organization call (713) 523 – 1616 or go to their website www.thecollective.org. Congratulations Dr. Carolyn Farb!
