On Saturday, August 5, 2017, The Drifters held its 61st National Convention Scholarship Luncheon at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. The Houston Chapter luncheon took place at 12:15 p.m. and the theme was “Education Sparks Magical Opportunities”. Thelma Johnson/Dr. Bente Gage (Chairman/Co-Chairman of the Scholarship Committee) and Linda Carter-McClure (National Convention Planner) presented the DBEB Scholarship. Linda Burkley (Scholarship Committee) gave the Introduction of Speaker and Dr. Cherry Gooden (Texas Southern University – Department Chairman, Retired) was the Guest Speaker. Also, Ada Cooper (President of Houston Chapter) presented Special Presentation, Deborah Roundtree (National Membership Chairman) presented Chapter Awards and Denise Taylor presented Human Services Awards, and NOW Black Woman.
